Personal Statement
I was raised a Republican and practically bottle-fed hate-filled vitriol from Rush Limbaugh about how the "lib-ruhls" were ruining America. Then I moved away from my home to New England for college, and within four years, my world view changed. Not just because I was exposed to more liberals, but because slowly I began to realize that most of the things that I believed in while growing up were actually liberal policies. I told myself that I was apolitical because politics didn't interest me and because I thought politicians actually had little control over what happened in my life, but I came to realize that I was actually just avoiding the issues because I didn't want to call myself a liberal.
Now I'm "out" to my conservative family and to myself, and I couldn't be happier. I have hope for this country because of my own political transition.
